Travel and Visa Information
Unless you are an Australian citizen or a New Zealand passport holder, you must have a valid Australian visa to enter the country. Passport holders from certain countries or jurisdictions may be eligible for an Electronic Travel Authority (Subclass 601). For full details, visit Electronic Travel Authority (601). All other passport holders should apply for the Visitor visa (subclass 600) under the Business Visitor stream. See Business Visitor Stream (600) for more information.
If you require an invitation letter to apply for a visa, please email Ms Marie Patridge at marie.partridge@sydney.edu.au, and provide your name as shown on your passport, date of birth, nationality, and dates of visit. Please specify "Dynamic Radio Sky visa letter" in the subject.
Venue
The conference will be held in the Messel Lecture Theatre at the Sydney Nanoscience Hub (A31) on the University of Sydney Camperdown/Darlington Campus. Navigating the Camperdown Campus is easy, with the Quadrangle (A14) serving as the landmark. If you ever feel lost, simply head toward the iconic Quadrangle. From there, the Nanoscience Hub is just a short two-minute walk away, behind the Physics Building (A28). For navigation, use the Interactive Campus Map or the Google Map below to explore the campus and find your way.
The Messel Lecture Theatre offers various accessibility features to accommodate different needs. Click on the "Room Accessibility" tab in Room Features to see explore the features and view photos of the lecture theatre. Transportation
Traveling to Sydney
Many major airlines offer regular direct flights to Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD) from major cities in Asia and North America, with connecting flights to other destinations. The airport is located approximately 8 km south of Sydneyβs CBD and the Camperdown/Darlington Campus.
The Sydney Train T8 line offers regular service subject to a surcharge from the International Airport Station to the Sydney CBD, where you can transfer to other trains, buses, metro, and light rail services across the city. Additionally, bus route 420 runs between Mascot and Burwood via the International Terminal. You can pay with either an Opal card, which is available at the International Airport Station, or a contactless debit/credit card.
You can also take a taxi or Uber to the Sydney CBD, which costs approximately AUD $45 and takes around 20 minutes, depending on demand and traffic conditions.
Getting around in Sydney
The Sydney Nanoscience Hub (A31) is approximately a 30-minute walk from Central Station and a 20-minute walk from Redfern Station. Frequent bus services connect the university campus with the Sydney CBD. You can alight at University of Sydney, City Rd or University of Sydney Ross St Gate and walk to the Nanoscience Hub. Be sure to tap off when getting off.

There are many accommodation options available around the local area to suit different budgets and preferences.
Hotels Near the University of Sydney
If you prefer a hotel, we recommend the following options, all within close proximity to the university:
- Veriu Camperdown β Only a 5-minute walk from campus.
- Veriu Broadway β Located a short bus ride from the university.
- Rydges Camperdown β Conveniently located on Missenden Road.
- Quality Apartments Camperdown β Also situated on Missenden Road.
- The Collectionist Hotel β A unique, boutique hotel in the local area.
Hotels Closer to the CBD
For those who prefer staying closer to the city center, you may consider:
- The Mercure β Near Central Station, at the south end of the CBD, with a 5-10 minute bus ride to the university.
- Zara Towers β High-quality serviced apartments located on Wentworth Ave in the CBD.
Airbnb Options
A wide range of Airbnb properties are available near the university, often at a lower cost than hotel rooms. This may be a good alternative for those seeking flexible or budget-friendly accommodation.
On campus student accomoodation
Budget friendly, on campus options can be found through our Residential Colleges. Availability is limited and it is recommended to contact them directly.

Conference Slack
We will be utilising a slack workspace for LOC and SOC announcements during the workshop, as well as a platform for asking questions, engaging in discussions, and connecting with speakers. Details will be provided to registered participants closer to the start of the conference
Online Participation
Talks will be streamed via a Zoom webinar, with a link sent out to registered participants shortly before the workshop. Online participants can ask questions and participate in discussion via the Slack workspace. Registration for online participants is free.
Things to do
Centrally organised activity
The Wednesday afternoon session of the conference will be left vacant to allow participants to hold their own discussions or go and see the city. We will be organising a voluntary social activity during that timeslot, with details TBD.

Here are some suggestions for you to explore different parts of Sydney
- Scenic Walk from Darling Harbour to the Royal Botanic Garden
Explore Sydney's most iconic landmarks on a leisurely harbourside walk. Start your afternoon at the SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium at Darling Harbour, you can take a scenic walk towards Barangaroo Reserve along the promenade. The reserve offers panoramic views of the harbour and the iconic Harbour Bridge with plenty of spots to relax. On your way from Barangaroo to Circular Quay, you can enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of The Rocks, Sydney's historic district, where you can stop for local markets and pubs. Finally, you can head towards the Royal Botanic Garden, where you can enjoy the views of the Sydney Opera House, surrounded by the park's lush greenery. This 2-3 hour walk allows you to enjoy Sydney's beautiful landmarks at a leisurely pace, perfect for an afternoon escape from the conference. - Explore Sydney's Museums
Sydney is home to world-class museums, perfect for an enriching indoor experience. If you're interested in art and paintings, visit the Art Gallery of New South Wales near Martin Place and the Museum of Contemporary Art at The Rocks, both showcasing Autralian, Indigenous, international, and modern arts. For a deeper dive into Australia's history, the Australian Museum near Museum station and the Museum of Sydney near Circular Quay offer insights into the natural history, First Nations culture, and Sydney's colonial past. Please note that some musuems may charge entry fee - check their websites for the latest details. - Ferry to Manly
If you're looking for a relaxing escape from the city, take a ferry from Circular Quay to Manly Beach. Ferries depart from Wharf 3 every 20 minutes, with a 30-minute ride offering breathtaking views of the Sydney Habour Bridge, Opera House, and scenic coastline dotted with beaches and lighthouses. Once in Manly, enjoy a walk along the beach promenade, grab a coffee at a seaside cafe, or try the famous Manly to Shelly Beach coastal walk. For a more adventurous option, take bus route 161 from Manly Wharf to Fairfax Track in North head, where you'll be rewarded with the panoramic views of Sydney's skyline and the vast Pacific Ocean. The return ferry ride at sunset is one of the most beautiful ways to experience the Sydney harbour. Please note that the last bus departing from Fairfax track back to Manly wharf leaves at 17:24 so be sure to plan ahead. - Visit Taronga Zoo
Taronga Zoo is located in Mosman, with brilliant views of Sydney Harbour. The zoo is accessible via bus from the CBD, or via ferry departing from Circular Quay every 30 minutes.

Australia's two most popular winter sports are rugby league (NRL) and Australian rules football (AFL).
The AFL schedule is not yet finalised, but there should be games in Sydney both the weekend before and the weekend after the conference. For details see here.

The "Beer Footy Food" festival will take place at Henson Park on the Saturday before the conference. For details and tickets see here - Run Sydney
Run clubs have become a social hub for Sydney in the past few years. There are several large group runs that happen across the city and the surrounding beaches on most weekday mornings and evenings - e.g. Unofficial Run Club, Kirribilli Runners", Coogee Run Club, Sydney Harbour Runners.
Additionally, there are multiple parkruns every Saturday morning throughout Sydney. The closest to the Sydney CBD are St Peters, Centennial, Pirrama and North Sydney. For details see here.
